Yahoo Renews with Google Resulting in Changes in Yahoo
Search Results

Why does this matter to you? In the past, Google results
have been secondary in Yahoo search results as "Web
Page Matches". They were essentially a backup to Yahoo's
results as a courtesy if you did not find what you were looking for in
Yahoo's directory results. Google listings are now blended in with
Yahoo's results. Read the above article, and you will see that to
rank well in Google essentially is now to rank well in Yahoo. You
might even say that to not rank well in Google is to not rank well in
Yahoo. Are you confused yet?
We had one client whose site was strictly commercial with
no content, one tiny related links page, and only a few quality links
pointing to them. They did not do as well in Google, but they were
number one in Yahoo for the top search phrase, halloween
costumes! The exact day these new results were implemented,
their top ranking dropped significantly. Coincidence you say?
We don't think that is very likely. Fortunately, our client already
had over 200,000 visits in October and had to temporarily close down till
after Halloween anyway due to so many orders. We would also like
to add that they are still #2
in Yahoo's directory listings that are available if you are not satisfied
with Yahoo's initial search results.
Another client was ranked number one out of over 11 million
results for the top keyword, creation,
in Google. They were ranked thirteenth in Yahoo before this new
deal. Guess where they are ranked in Yahoo's initial results now?
You guessed right. They are number
one out of almost 9 million results as well!
Paying a $295 annual fee for a Yahoo listing seemed like
the way to go previously. We are now recommending that clients concentrate
on Google and save their money!
