YAHOO ACQUIRES OVERTURE PAY PER CLICK SEARCH ENGINE AND MIVA MERCHANT

Yahoo recently acquired the Overture pay per click search engine.  This is very significant for Miva Merchant store owners because Overture already owns the search engines, Fast/All The Web and AltaVista. Yahoo already owns the Inktomi search engine which makes three search engines in their own back pocket.  Most store owners target Google which currently powers Yahoo's web results.  If a top ranking is achieved in Google, a top ranking is therefore achieved likewise in Yahoo.  Yahoo now owns three search engines.  What if they decide not to renew their contract with Google in favor of their own search engines?

1. Store owners who have exercised due diligence will already be listed and ranked reasonably well in these other search engines.
2. Or store owners who have been solely concentrating on Google will now have to scramble to get listed and ranked in these other search engines.
3. Yahoo will choose either Inktomi or Fast/All the Web's search technology to power its web listings but not AltaVista.
4. Or Yahoo will combine all three search technologies in some way as combined listings or as meta-type search listings.
