REVIEW OF PAGE TITLE MANAGER

Now that the OpenUI allows category and product names to come before the store name in the title tag of their screens, you might not see the need for a module that affects the title tags of screens in Miva Merchant.  Think again!  There are other screens that could benefit from a title tag targeting more than your store name.  This is not to say that having your store or company name in the title tag of screens is a bad idea entirely.  It would just be wiser to target specific keywords and phrases at the beginning of the title tag and have your store or company name at the end.

Page Title Manager takes custom screen titles to a whole new level. You can customize the title of your product list, search, customer login, affiliate login, basket contents, storefront, category, product, and other screens within your Miva Merchant store. You can also target different keywords or phrases for each screen, combine product names and catch phrases, and much more.  Another great thing about the Page Title Manager is the use of tokens. Some of the combinations you might try are:

• Default - <title>%storename% - Free Shipping</title> (If you don't configure a particular screen's title, this default will be used.)
• Storefront Screen - <title>%storename% - Buy it Now!</title>
• Category Screen - <title>%catname% - Buy it Now for Christmas! or %catname% - %storename%</title>
• Product Screen - <title>%prodname% - %catname% or %prodname% - %catname% - All Major Brands!</title>
• Product List Screen - <title>Targeted Keyphrase - %storename%</title>

When analyzing how one of our clients was ranking for a particular product they wanted to target, we found something interesting.  They were ranked number three in Google for the product name but ranked sixteenth for the product name plus the type of product.  The client had breadcrumb navigation in the store which identified the type of product, so they didn't feel the need to put the type of product in the product name.  A quick and easy fix was to use the Page Title Manager to modify product screen title tags.  Now instead of <title>%prodname%: store name</title>, it reads <title>%prodname% %catname%</title>.  When someone searches for the product name in Google, their title will now still rank high for <title>Product Name Category Name</title> but also rank higher if someone searches for the product name and type of product (i.e. <title>Product Name Category Name</title>).
