Documentation Online: The installation documents for most of our MIVA Merchant version 3.x and newer modules are online. You can review what is involved with installing modules with and without the OpenUI. The index also provides a quick view of all of our modules. You can also view a quick list catalog of all Emporium Plus products (not just software) at sitelink1-1.htm.

In many cases the compiled version of our modules is significantly different from the uncompiled versions. Many new features have been added to the compiled modules. The new features are identified on each module's product page. The compiled modules cannot be used with uncompiled versions of MIVA Merchant (v1.0-4.13). Likewise, our older, uncompiled modules cannot be used with compiled MIVA Merchant (v4.14 and newer). You will need to upgrade our older modules if you intend to use them in compiled MIVA Merchant. If you purchased a license for our version 4.0-4.13 (uncompiled) module within the past 90 days, your upgrade to the compiled version is free. If you qualify for the free upgrade, please use the Contact Us button to the left and provide the order number and modules you want to upgrade. If you purchased a license for our older version more than 90 days ago, you can purchase the compiled version license at a reduce upgrade cost if you enter the previous order number in the upgrade input on the product page. If you find a product page without an upgrade input, contact me before ordering. There may be some pages we missed as we have been concentrating on making the code in the modules solid and less on marketing.

NEW: MIVA Merchant 5.x requires modules written specifically for MIVA Merchant 5.x. Modules for older versions of Merchant will not work in Merchant 5.x because the Merchant API has changed significantly. Installation of 5.x module is significantly different from earlier versions. Rather than rely on an intermediate module to insert code at hook points, you will use tokens, much like you have done in the past with template pages. The big difference is that virtually every screen can now be a template so you have maximum flexibility in your store's look and feel. Module installation notes are online. Those modules which have a document link in the 5.x column have been converted from 4.x to 5.x. Most, but not all, of those without a link, will eventually be converted. Some modules are no longer necessary because their functionality is built into Merchant 5.x. If you are upgrading and using one of our 4.x modules that has not yet been converted, use the Contact Us button on the storefront and let me know. I will try to move urgent requests for conversion up in the queue. Because of the major changes, it takes 1 to 4 days to convert a 4.x module to 5.x. A couple of our modules will need a complete re-write so we will not be able to expedite their conversion. Our version 5 test store, Pin Emporium, currently has over 75 of our modules for MIVA Merchant 5 installed. For comparison purposes, this test store has nearly the same categories and products as our Emporium Plus store which is Merchant 4.x with MMUI (no OpenUI).

Compiled MIVA Merchant 4.x requires compiled modules. If our module requires editing of the mmui.mv (see each module's installation notes) you will need to edit your mmui.mv and compile it. If you do not have the Mivascript compiler you will need get it from MIVA Corp. Unless you are a web site developer, I strongly recommend you install the OpenUI when using MIVA Merchant 4.14-4.24. This alleviates the need to edit the mmui.mv. That said, this store (Emporium Plus) is running compiled Merchant with the MMUI interface. Editing of the mmui.mv and re-compiling is required for many of the modules which are installed in this store. This paragraph does not apply to Merchant 5.x. If you are using MIVA Merchant 5.x, you will not need the compiler and no editing of the mmui.mv is needed. Instead, you will insert tokens into the Merchant templates to display the module's output.

The Merchant 4.x versions are going to place the modules under a different subdirectory from previous versions. For example, the old path was Merchant2/modules/util/??? for store utility modules. The new path could be Merchant2/4.24/modules/util/??? Likewise, other directories (payment, shipping, etc) are under the new 4.24 designation. You should have your modules ready for upload or manually place them in the new locations BEFORE you run the upgrade.mv script. I opted to FTP to the new locations before running the upgrade script.

Important note about MIVA Merchant 5.x modules. Our 5.x modules currently fully support the mivasql configuration of MIVA Merchant 5. They also support MySQL as long as load balancing has the data stored on the single MySQL server. This would be the case in most of the server setups. A couple highly respected web hosts have commented on this issue. For those that are load balancing and data is on multiple MySQL servers, we are in the process of converting the code for that remaining, very small group of MIVA Merchant stores. At this time we have not had a problem. Modules will be moved to the top of the queue as needed.

As condition of our copyright, you cannot re-sell or transfer your license of our modules to other people or companies. The modules do not have unlimited re-distribution rights. You are allowed to use them in ONE mall. Within that single mall, they can be used in multiple stores without additional license. Your use of the modules constitutes your acceptance of the copyright terms.

If you would like to learn MIVAscripting, and be able to create dynamic online applications as we have done, you might want to get a "how to" book. We don't sell one, but we are an approved associate of Amazon.com and they do sell at least one.
