The OpenUI Look & Feel module replaces your MMUI module and provides central 'hooks' through which module developers may easily add features and performance enhancing solutions without having to reinvent the wheel with each Merchant release.

UDPATED VERSION - NEW AND IMPROVED!

We went all out with this latest release of the OpenUI. We have included the following enhancements:

  • OpenBatches™ - This simplifies order processing in Miva Merchant like never before. You no longer have to go back and forth between the left-hand tree and right-hand main window. From the right hand main window, searchable lists allow you to search, view, edit, or delete batches. This screen also allows you to view orders within a particular batch via OpenOrders™, shows if you have new orders, and even enables you to create a new batch. This all happens from ONE interface.

  • OpenOrders™ - Using the main window, you now have a searchable order list that allows you to filter by all orders, only unbatched orders, or by orders within an individual batch. You can further filter by order number, product code, order total range, and by date and time range. From this screen, you can also edit and delete individual orders.   • Shorter URLS for Google - It was recently announced in a newsletter geared toward search engines and Miva Merchant that category and product pages without the store code in the url were being readily indexed by the top search engine in the world, Google. If you only have one store, the OpenUI will automatically remove the store code from all urls in the category tree, product list, search results, and basket contents screen. If you have two stores, your store code will remain in the url.

    Example:Instead of merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CODE&Category_Code=CATEGORY, it will be: merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CATEGORY This applies to compiled stores with the mvc extension as well.

    Feature added based on recommendations from JMH Web Services (jmhonline.net). *This information has been updated to reflect new findings from JMH. Google now does not have a problem with the store code.

  • Category and Product Names First in Title Tags- Miva Merchant and previously the OpenUI put your store name before the category and product names in their respective screens title tag (i.e. Store Name: Category or Product Name). Depending on the length of your store name, your category and product titles may not be appearing in your search engine listings title phrase! With the new and improved OpenUI, your category and product titles will be first in the title tag, resulting in better listings within search engines (i.e.Category or Product Title: Store Name).

  • A New (Optional) Interface for the Miva Merchant Navigation Bar (navbar)- You now have better (and more) control over which navigation buttons are displayed, as well as many other features including:
    • Ability to specify cellpadding and cellspacing of navbar.
    • Optional navbar background image.
    • Options to align navbar (i.e. Full, Center, Left, Right).
    • Ability to change navbar buttons including the logo to space, text, etc.
    • Token replacement in the Cell "links" can be done using the %VAR(varname )% convention. For example, to include the g.sessionurl, just use "%VAR(g.sessionurl)%". To include the store id, use "%VAR(Stores.d.id)%". Most available variables can be used, but they will all be filtered through the encodeentities() function before they are substituted.

The OpenUI Look & Feel Pro License Key unlocks a special feature of the latest OpenUI module. Once you unlock this feature with your license, you will be able to see the total stats for the orders in one batch, all unbatched orders, or all orders regardless of classification. The stats page gives a total sales summary, and then breaks the total sales down by day-of-the-week and time of day (by the hour) the orders were made. The stats page also lists the top selling products and top revenue generators for the specified parameters. The stats are based on the filtering options you currently have set, allowing you to specify exactly what information you would like to generate. For example, if you are in the customer screen on the OpenOrders™ tab and click on the stats button, you will see the stats of that customer's order only. If you have filtered the orders based on the order total and the date range, then the stats will be based on this filter. The stats button gives you immense flexibility because it allows you to view stats using a single filter or any combination of filters. For example, you can see the top 20 products from those that purchased SOMEPRODUCT, or those that have spent over a designated amount....or use both filters. All these resources are available simply by clicking the stats button, which appears on both the OpenOrders™and OpenBatches™ screens.

  • Displays the number of currently shopping visitors (opened baskets)
  • Automatically backs up and resets databases and deletes data files that grow over assigned file size quota - significant performance boost!
  • Automatically deletes temporary files from interrupted packing (i.e. products.dbt00000001)

    • List of bestsellers. It can contain limited number of bestesellers or list of all products sorted by number of sales. Values since the last reset in MM Admin.
  • INSTANT ACCESS To MM ADMIN Functions
    From the MmTICKER window you can access the following often used MM Admin functions with a single click on a button:
    • Instant access to the standard MM Admin without the necessity to log in
    • Shutting down the store to the maintenance mode and re-opening it again
    • Deleting baskets (all or expired only)
    • Packing store and domain data
    • Instant access to the batch report of new arrived orders (click on the new order announcement). Works with both Ultra Batch and the built-in MM batch report.
  • ALERTS AND EMAIL ALERTS
    MmTICKER watches your store and associated files and in addition to displaying an alert message on the screen it also sends e-mail alert to the store owner. Email alerts work even without the MmTICKER window opened!
    • File Quotas: MmTICKER warns if pre-defined files grow over the limit assigned to them. Works also with files 3rd party modules!
    • Database Consistency: MmTICKER verifies all pre-defined databases if they are not corrupted and do not contain duplicate records. Works also with databases 3rd party modules!
    • Alerts on failed schedule tasks or optionally email reporting of successfully finished scheduled tasks, too.
    • MmTICKER alerts when the number of failed payments in a day is bigger the given limit (possibly signilizes problems with the payment gateway or fraud attempts)
  • SCHEDULED TASKS
    You can set up inlimited number of scheduled taks to be performed daily, monthly or yearly. The defult pre-defined task schedules at 4:00AM the store for at the maintenance mode 15 minutes later, waits till the store is closed, deletes expired baskets, packs store data, packs domain data and re-opens the store. Scheduler may be configured so that it executes the tasks only if nobody is in the store. Currently, the following commands may be used:
    • Close - scheduling the store for the maintenance mode after a pre-define time (15 minutes by default)
    • WaitClose - waits till the store shuts down
    • DelExpBask - deletes expired baskets to increase the performance and reduce the file sizes
    • DelAllBask - deletes ALL baskets (even those not yet expired)
    • PackStore - packing store data to reduce store specific files and to rebuild store database indexes.
    • PackDomain - packing domain data to reduce common Merchant files and to rebuild mall database indexes.
    • ExportNew - exports new order to a file and sends the new batch by e-mail to the store owner (with Ultra Batch)
    • DelCC - for security reasons, deletes payment data (incl. CC numbers) of all processed orders (with Ultra Batch).
    • backup - creating full backup copy of Miva Merchant Data (Unix full shell servers only. Limited support).
    • mmubat - calls Ultra Batch module and performs tasks defined in passed arguments (with Ultra Batch, for advanced users only).
    • admin - calls MM Admin and performs tasks defined in passed arguments (for advanced users only).
    • shell - calls system commands (Unix full shell servers only. For advanced users only).
    • other commands for the scheduler may be added on request

  • MmTicker logs unauthorized access attempts with detailed information about the user - logfile is browsable through the MmTICKER admin screen.
  • Scheduled tasks are also logged and the records may be viewed in the Admin screen.
  • Time zone setting and user-defined date and time format

We went all out with this latest release of the OpenUI. We have included the following enhancements:

  • OpenBatches™ - This simplifies order processing in Miva Merchant like never before. You no longer have to go back and forth between the left-hand tree and right-hand main window. From the right hand main window, searchable lists allow you to search, view, edit, or delete batches. This screen also allows you to view orders within a particular batch via OpenOrders™, shows if you have new orders, and even enables you to create a new batch. This all happens from ONE interface.

  • OpenOrders™ - Using the main window, you now have a searchable order list that allows you to filter by all orders, only unbatched orders, or by orders within an individual batch. You can further filter by order number, product code, order total range, and by date and time range. From this screen, you can also edit and delete individual orders. Once again, this all happens in ONE interface.

    An optional statistics interface that works with both the OpenBatches™ and OpenOrders™can be unlocked with the purchase of an OpenUI Pro license key. Find out your top sellers, revenue generators, sales by the hour and day, and much MORE! Read More Detailed Information!

    This additional license key is solely for statistics features and will have NO impact on existing or future OpenUI installations. All stores will continue to function with the same capabilities as before and include the great features listed below.

  • Shorter URLS for Google - It was recently announced in a newsletter geared toward search engines and Miva Merchant that category and product pages without the store code in the url were being readily indexed by the top search engine in the world, Google. If you only have one store, the OpenUI will automatically remove the store code from all urls in the category tree, product list, search results, and basket contents screen. If you have two stores, your store code will remain in the url.

    Example:Instead of merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CODE&Category_Code=CATEGORY, it will be: merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CATEGORY This applies to compiled stores with the mvc extension as well.

    Feature added based on recommendations from JMH Web Services (jmhonline.net). *This information has been updated to reflect new findings from JMH. Google now does not have a problem with the store code.

  • Category and Product Names First in Title Tags- Miva Merchant and previously the OpenUI put your store name before the category and product names in their respective screens title tag (i.e. Store Name: Category or Product Name). Depending on the length of your store name, your category and product titles may not be appearing in your search engine listings title phrase! With the new and improved OpenUI, your category and product titles will be first in the title tag, resulting in better listings within search engines (i.e.Category or Product Title: Store Name).

    Feature added based on recommendations from JMH Web Services (jmhonline.net).

  • A New (Optional) Interface for the Miva Merchant Navigation Bar (navbar)- You now have better (and more) control over which navigation buttons are displayed, as well as many other features including:
    • Ability to specify cellpadding and cellspacing of navbar.
    • Optional navbar background image.
    • Options to align navbar (i.e. Full, Center, Left, Right).
    • Ability to change navbar buttons including the logo to space, text, etc.
    • Token replacement in the Cell "links" can be done using the %VAR(varname )% convention. For example, to include the g.sessionurl, just use "%VAR(g.sessionurl)%". To include the store id, use "%VAR(Stores.d.id)%". Most available variables can be used, but they will all be filtered through the encodeentities() function before they are substituted.

  • Support for New Attribute Types Built-In- New Attribute Types were previously only supported in the uncompiled versions of Miva Merchant, but will now be in both the compiled and uncompiled versions, and will not require the Admin Extension installation.

  • Support for module Order Tabs Built-In- module Order Tabs were previously only supported in the uncompiled versions of Miva Merchant, but will now be in both the compiled and uncompiled versions, and will not require the Admin Extension installation.

  • Body and Head Tag Options - You don't need additional modules anymore for these two fields if you use the latest version of the OpenUI! Include javascript, cascading style sheets, meta tags, margin height and width, preload images, and much more. For example:

The OpenUI Look & Feel Pro License Key unlocks a special feature of the latest OpenUI module. Once you unlock this feature with your license, you will be able to see the total stats for the orders in one batch, all unbatched orders, or all orders regardless of classification. The stats page gives a total sales summary, and then breaks the total sales down by day-of-the-week and time of day (by the hour) the orders were made. The stats page also lists the top selling products and top revenue generators for the specified parameters. The stats are based on the filtering options you currently have set, allowing you to specify exactly what information you would like to generate. For example, if you are in the customer screen on the OpenOrders™ tab and click on the stats button, you will see the stats of that customer's order only. If you have filtered the orders based on the order total and the date range, then the stats will be based on this filter. The stats button gives you immense flexibility because it allows you to view stats using a single filter or any combination of filters. For example, you can see the top 20 products from those that purchased SOMEPRODUCT, or those that have spent over a designated amount....or use both filters. All these resources are available simply by clicking the stats button, which appears on both the OpenOrders™and OpenBatches™ screens.

7 MmDbDOC truXoft / Miva Central

MmDbDOC - truXoft Data Doctor and Miva Database Editor

MmDbDOC is a tool for testing and repairing corrupted databases and database indexes. It allows you to remove duplicate records from any Merchant or non-Merchant database quickly and without downloading or importing them, directly through the Miva Merchant Admin web interface. There are three different ways of the duplicate records repair:

  • manual selection - you can select which of the duplicate records you keep, and remove the remaining one(s)
  • manual editing - you can edit the duplicates so that you keep several or all of them in the database but change the unique identifier field(s) so that the duplicate key in the index is avoided
  • fully automated - MmDbDOC will automatically remove all duplicate records from the selected database, keeping always the first found record in the duplicate set

MmDbDOC can be also used for viewing databases. This feature is invaluable for quick database verification, for retrieving data not accessible through Miva Merchant Admin (i.e. customer passwords, module settings, basket data, affiliate data, ...). Please note: We recommend viewing the raw databases containing sensitive data (passwords, email addresses, payment data) in secure mode only (SSL / https).

The PRO version includes a full featured database editor for modifying any Miva Merchant or 3rd party database tables. Fields may be quickly modified without downloading or exporting any data. New records may be added or old ones deleted. You can duplicate whole blocks of records with a simple click and edit them afterwards.

Important note: The database editor in the PRO version was designed for advanced users who understand the basic structure of Miva Merchant databases. MmDbDOC allows you to edit the raw data, but makes no verification of the data you added, modified or removed. If multiple tables are in a relation, it is the user who has to insure to edit all related tables appropriately to avoid breaking the cross table links. Unqualified editing of the databases may corrupt the store. We highly recommend backing up the entire domain and store data before removing duplicate records (repair) or before editing the databases. truXoft bears absolutely no liability in case of loss of data, corrupted databases or a broken Miva Merchant store. If any such case should occur, please restore the original data from the backup.

After repairing or editing any database, you have to pack both domain and store data in Admin!

Instructions

Installation instrucitons may be found in the readme.txt included in the distribution package. After registering your license key, in Ultra Batch (Xadmin) screen in the main frame of Miva Merchant Admin, click on the tab "databases", select the mode "database list" and click the OK button. Ultra Batch will show you the list of all pre-defined databases.

If a corrupted database with duplicate records is detected, the "Repair" button appears right in the line of the concerned database. By clicking it, you access the repair interface and see the first found set of duplicate records.

You can either:

  1. select the record you want to keep (click "KEEP Selected"),
  2. or edit the records to avoid the duplicate key (edit the fields with light blue background so that the resulting key is different at each record) and click the button "Keep multiple"
  3. or let MmDbDOC repair the database unattended (click "Automated Repair")

In case of manual repair, as described above in 1) and 2), you have to repeat the operation with each duplicate set individually. Normally, you should use the default mode of Ultra Batch hiding deleted records - select "standard" in the first small dropdown box in the right part of the Ultra Batch control panel. In case you use the mode "all", you'll have to navigate through the duplicate sets with the help of the navigation buttons right below the Ultra Batch control panel.

The navigation buttons can be used also when you want to preview all duplicate sets before starting to repair them. Please note that the filter expression (top left) and pagination (top right) of Ultra Batch have influence on the MmDbDOC output. When low numbers are selected in the pagination in sake of faster page loads, use the navigation buttons to proceed to the next page. It applies also for the database list, not only for the repair and edit interface of MmDbDOC.

Before starting to repair or edit databases with MmDbDOC, it is recommended to put the store into maintenance mode. Use the first button (the lock) in the Ultra Batch panel to close and re-open the store. We also highly recommend to back up the entire Miva Data directory containing the databases, before performing any operation on the data with MmDbDOC.

If you experience a runtime error in the store front or Admin, where the message speaks about a database index, copy the message, and after opening the mode "parse error" in the "databases" tab of Ultra Batch, paste the error into the displayed field. MmDbDOC will look up the databases and launch the repair interface.

In case you need to repair a database not listed, you can select the "3rd party dB" mode and enter the database and index paths manually to start the repair function.

Database viewer (demo and standard versions), or the database editor (PRO version) can be launched by clicking the requested database alias in the database list.

IMPORTANT: after repairing or editing any database, you have to pack both domain and store data in Admin!

Communication of order status with your customers is a critical element in the overall success of your store. Provide order status change emails to customers, keep track of order changes with backend administrative notes, and provide customers with an easy login view of their order status and invoice.

Provide order status change emails to customers, keep track of order changes with backend administrative notes, and provide customers with an easy login view of their order status and invoice. Easily manage customer communication with this module and the related modules below.

In addition to enhanced communication with your customers, you may want to manage product levels associated with orders and cancelled orders. Miva Merchant allows you to track stock levels of your products online. As products are placed in the basket, the level is decremented. If the order is not completed, the products are returned to the shelf when you delete expired baskets. If the order is cancelled, the products are not automatically returned to stock in the core Miva Merchant. The customer and product management modules interface with this internal inventory management (IM) system to improve the overall IM usability.

In the administrative interface:

  • Shipping tracking numbers, entered through admin, display in the customer account and the status update email (can be linked directly to the shipper tracking page)
  • Change the order status and optionally send the customer an order status email which can vary based on the style of the status email chosen. Email styles are created using templates with tokens for insertion of specific variables. Can update several orders at once with the bulk status update feature.
  • Run an end of day-productivity report for all dates, a range of dates, or a specific date displaying all records or just the records with a specific status. A convenient link to the order edit screen makes viewing an individual order quick and easy.
  • Re-establish inventory levels for a product when an order has been cancelled (auto-restock) or new quantities are put in your inventory.
  • Run a Stock Level Report to determine which items are nearing depletion or all products being managed for inventory. The module admin console includes an easily editable interface to change the inventory levels of all/any products in the report.
  • Export a flat file of product codes, quantity, and product name for easy mass editing/importing or to interface with your office backend systems or for re-import into Merchant itself.
  • Display the number of status = "pending" orders in the main admin screen, Store Notifications section, so pending orders are immediately visible when you log into admin. A convenient popup shows order numbers and dollar total of each.
  • Additional order related data can be added in the admin screen; employee code making the status change, date of the change, narrative notes about the order, numeric value (e.g. for adjustments). Multiple admin updates can be made to each order's record by any department within your store (packing, shipping, accounting, returns, etc).

From the customer account record:

  • Customers can view the status of all of their orders, including update information (e.g. tracking numbers) which is entered by the store owner through admin. The order status history display can be modified by the store owner with a template and tokens. You can even include hot links to carriers' tracking systems with the number filled in. You'll need to enter your carrier tracking URLs into the module's admin configuration screen. The number of carrier URLs you include in admin is not limited.
  • Customers can view their previous invoices as long as they are in online batches or still in the unbatched orders.
  • Even after orders and batches are deleted (you may delete processed orders to save disk space) the customer can still review the basic products listed in their order along with the shipping and payment info.
  • Customers can re-order/duplicate a previous order with a single click from the invoice (order details page) which are still in online batches (i.e. not deleted) or as yet unbatched orders.

9 Custom Customer Fields Interface v5 Emporium Plus / Miva Central

This interface module will display and retrieve customer entered information relative to customer accounts on the account create, account edit, and order customer information screens. You can even use it with the Emporium Plus Mail Manager module (sold separately) to include the information in the order notification emails.

Interface with built-in custom customer fields: The built in custom customer fields module from MIVA Corp establishes the databases and provides an admin side interface for the store owner to enter custom customer data. This module provides the merchant public side for the customer to enter data into those custom fields.

Easy token implementation: Easily place tokens on the customer information collection screens using the standard MM5 template script. You can use the common "foreach" loop to display all of them together or you can break each field out for display in various parts of the screen. For example, you may want to collect a second address line just below the first address line and then later in the screen collect the company rep the customer deals with. To view the actual look of the screen, you can go to our pinemporium.com test store and create an account. You can change values in the fields with the account edit selection on the nav bar.

Flat file export: When a new customer account is created, all of the standard field values except the pgrpcount and password are saved to a flat file log. In addition to the standard fields, values entered into the custom fields are also saved to the flat file. Additionally, date and time fields are exported so you can determine exactly when a new customer account was created. The flat file is | delimited and can be FTPd to your PC with your FTP software and then imported into other programs. You can periodically delete the flat file and it will be recreated with the next new customer account creation.

Search new customer log: You can search the flat file log created when new customers sign-up. You can search on keyword, single date, and/or date range. The standard and custom fields will be displayed. The log display includes a link to the actual customer records so you can edit and make changes if needed.

Interface with email modules: The custom field values can be displayed in the merchant and customer notification emails if you are using the Emporium Plus Mail Manager module (sold separately) to generate them.

Limitations:

  • Custom customer fields are used for customer records. If the customer does not create or have an existing account, there is no place to save or use the information. Hence, on the 'OCST' checkout screen, it is best to wrap the custom customer field inputs within a conditional check for customer ID.
  • There is no validation to ensure the custom fields are filled in. Therefore, they are all optional.
  • If you want to display the custom customer fields in the notification emails, you will need to use an email module capable of using custom field tokens, for example the Mail Manager.
  • The inputs will disable html and SQL injection hacks. It is expected customers will be entering text or checkbox entries. While textarea inputs can be used, internal actions will be taken to reduce hacker attempts. So if you need custom fields that will accept html, this module is not for you.

The membership system allows you to automatically include customers into price groups when they log into your store and is based on their prior purchase history. You set up your price groups as you would any price groups and assign the applicable products to those groups. Then you specify a trigger level required for the customer to be a member of each group. You can insert tokens into the applicable screens, e.g. customer edit, welcome back returning and new customers. Then when they log in, the token runs the order history for the status codes you specify (e.g. F for filled), sums the totals, and checks to see if they meet a membership level. If they do, they are inserted into the highest qualified price group.

  • Run a Stock Level Report to determine which items are nearing depletion or all products being managed for inventory. The module admin console includes an easily editable interface to change the inventory levels of all/any products in the report.
  • Export a flat file of product codes, quantity, and product name for easy mass editing/importing or to interface with your office backend systems or for re-import into Merchant itself.
  • Additional order related data can be added in the admin screen; employee code making the status change, date of the change, narrative notes about the order, numeric value (e.g. for adjustments). Multiple admin updates can be made to each order's record by any department within your store (packing, shipping, accounting, returns, etc).


From the customer account record:
  • Customers can view the status of all of their orders, including update information (e.g. tracking numbers) which is entered by the store owner through admin. The order status history display can be modified by the store owner with a template and tokens. You can even include hot links to carriers' tracking systems with the number filled in. You'll need to enter your carrier tracking URLs into the module's admin configuration screen. The number of carrier URLs you include in admin is not limited.
  • Customers can view their previous invoices as long as they are in online batches or still in the unbatched orders.
  • Even after orders and batches are deleted (you may delete processed orders to save disk space) the customer can still review the basic products listed in their order along with the shipping and payment info.
  • Customers can re-order/duplicate a previous order with a single click from the invoice (order details page) which are still in online batches (i.e. not deleted) or as yet unbatched orders.

At this time we have not had a problem. Modules will be moved to the top of the queue as needed.

Feature Details. You can add coupons through the standard Miva Merchant admin interface and include usage criteria.

  • An unlimited number of coupons can be assigned to the store and each identified with a coupon code. Once you have added the module to the store, you can add coupons in the Order Fulfillment section of the admin interface. When you select the Add icon, you will have several input fields to fill in. You must enter a unique code for your coupon. This is the code that you will give to customers so they can shop and redeem the coupon (one per order). It can be any combination of letters and/or numbers.
  • The compiled version has a coupon generation function. You can embed a token in your welcome email or notification emails generated with our Mail Manager module. A unique coupon code will be created and is based on the coupon template you designate. You can have an unlimited number of templates and an unlimited number of coupons copied from them. If you are not using our Mail Manager, you can still activate the generator by placing the token in the invoice header if you are using the OpenUI.
  • If you have a lot of coupons you want to load into the system quickly, the compiled version has a coupon import from flat file module
  • An optional expiration date can be included which will prevent its use if the date has passed. Enter it in the year, month, day format, eg. 20000724 would be July 24, 2000. If you leave this field blank the coupon will never expire. However, you can still delete it manually through the admin interface.
  • A fixed value OR percentage discount off the order total is assigned to each coupon. The default is fixed value/price, eg $5.00 off the order total. If you put the % sign in the next input field AFTER the value field, it will calculate the coupon value based on the assigned percent of the order total. The %, if used, is entered in the separate field to the right for that purpose. If left blank, the calculation will be based on the fixed value of the coupon. See the note below about restricting discount calculations to specific products instead of the order total. A maximum redemption value can be assigned to each coupon in Merchant 4.x. If you enter the letter S in the field to the right, the coupon will be used to allow free shipping (compiled version only) for the entire order. Other criteria for the coupon must be met, e.g. minimum order amount, eligible products, etc.
  • Optionally, a coupon can be allowed only when an order total reaches a specific amount. For example, you can give a 10% discount when the order total reaches $200 as an incentive or promo. In all cases where a raw value is used, you must make this value equal to or greater than the value of the coupon. If you use the percent calculation, this value can be any value, including zero.
  • Based on your state's tax requirements, the coupon can be designated to reduce the sales tax or not reduce it. The coupon's tax effect is on the order total, not on individual products. For example, in some states, a store coupon reduces the cumulative value of products purchased before the sales tax is applied, hence you would want it to reduce tax. The exception to doing this is if your products are likely to be non-taxable, making a coupon reduce tax could result in a negative tax calculation. Another type coupon might be the manufacturer coupon. In some states, manufacturer coupons do not decrease the tax liability. You should determine your state's tax requirements before adding coupons to your store.
  • Coupons can either be used:
    • multiple times - The coupon can be used at every visit by any customer who shops at your store. This is usually used as a promo to customers, user lists, clubs, etc. They often have a short expiration date to limit their use. A typical usage might be a special holiday sale, eg 10% off everything in the store if used by a specified date. This would eliminate the need for special price groups if the intent is that everybody who has the coupon code can use it.
    • only one time for each customer - The coupon can only be used for one visit per customer. When the same customer shops at your store a second time, if he/she uses the same coupon code, it will be rejected. This is probably the most common coupon and is usually used in print ads or as a promo, eg. "$5.00 off on your next visit".
    • only one time for a unique coupon code - The coupon can only be used once. Once any customer has used this code, it becomes unavailable for any other purchase. This is often used as a customer relations tool, eg "sorry for the inconvenience, please accept this coupon.....".
  • You can restrict usage of a coupon in your store so that it can be used only if a specific product code is ordered. You can list several product codes, any of which in the basket would make the coupon valid if the other requirements are met. Leaving the product code blank means that customers do not have to order a specific product as long as they meet the other requirements the store owner has specified. If you check the box to the left of the product code list AND are using the percentage discount, only those products in the code list will be used in the calculation using the qualifying products subtotal. If you do not check the box, the percentage discount will be applied against the order total. In Merchant 4.0, you can use a wildcard for the product list, e.g. 1AA* would make all products beginning with 1AA eligible for the coupon discount.
  • New in the compiled version of the coupon module is the ability to restrict the coupon usage down to the attribute level. For example, you can limit the coupon to product codes beginning with 1AA and the attribute "Version" with the option of "4.5". The format for the input would be 1AA*~Version~4.5|
  • Alternatively, if you precede the product list with a - (minus) character, the coupon will be excluded from use with those product codes. You canNOT specify it to the attribute level like the include above. (compiled version only)
  • Appropriate error messages are displayed when coupons don't meet the usage criteria established by the store owner. When the shopper enters a coupon code at checkout that is not valid based on the criteria you establish, he/she will see an error message just below the coupon code input when the checkout form is re-displayed. One coupon can be redeemed per order on the checkout page.
  • In admin, the coupons can be easily displayed and edited. The coupons are displayed in a table format with configurable number of coupons per page displayed. The entire coupon database is searchable by coupon code or portion of the coupon code.
  • Expired coupons can be removed from the database (to cut down on disk usage) one at a time or in mass. In admin, you can either put a check in the remove column and select update or select purge expired coupons, then select update.
  • A historical database, which can be imported and analyzed in database or spreadsheet software, is maintained on all coupons used. The couponuz.dbf can be FTPd to your PC for further analysis in MS Access, MS Excel, or other data management software. This could be useful in determining which coupons bring you the most activity. The number of uses for each coupon is displayed in the admin table in Merchant 4.0
  • New in the compiled version is the coupon usage report. You can summarize or list each coupon used for a specific time period. You can also restrict the output to a specific coupon code or a string of characters in a coupon code. This latter is useful when you have assigned a series of coupons to an affiliate or advertising campaign. You can determine how much business was brought in with the coupons from various sources.
  • The compiled version of this module can use OpenTokens instead of hook points within OpenObjects. The OpenDesigner screen lists the OpenObjects which can replace all or some screens within the OpenUI user interface. The OpenObjects provide a template screen which contains the existing hook points (backward compatibility), OpenToken capability, and the ability to move output around within the OpenObject screen. Since the tokens in this module conform to OpenToken functionality, they may be used in other template type screens.

MMUI and OpenUI compatible. If you are using MMUI, there are two required edits in the mmui.mv. If using MMUI in a compiled version of Merchant (4.14 and newer), you will need to edit and recompile the mmui.mv (expensive proposition). Thus, with compiled Merchant, we recommend using OpenUI instead of the MMUI user interface.

16 Tell A Friend Weiland / Miva Central

Provide an easy interface for visitors to refer your site URL to their friends. It uses the Miva SMTP capability. The subject and body of the Tell a Friend email message is configurable through the Merchant admin interface. The form colors and fonts that the customer sees is also configurable in admin. You can choose to have a blind CC sent to the store email address and a log entry (date, from, to, product code - if applicable) maintained in a flat file when referrals are sent. If the customer sends the referral email when they are on a specific product screen, a second link to the product is included in the email. In Merchant 4.x and if you are using our Gift - Wish List module, there is a convenient button on the bottom of the Gift List display that sends the Gift List URL to your friends.

The module is MMUI and OpenUI compatible. If using the MMUI, two edits are required in the mmui.mv. With MMUI, you can place the button just about anywhere on the screen that you want it, the most common location being at the bottom of the category column. With the OpenUI, you can select through admin among the eight possible locations.

New in the compiled version is compatibility interface with the OpenUI Tokens and Viking Coders product template module. Place the Tell-a-Friend button on the product page so that it better fits your desired look. Also, new in the compiled version is the ability to send the search string to a friend if your store is also using our Power Search module. Clicking the link will reproduce the search the original friend had created with Power Search prior to sending the Tell-a-Friend email.

In the compiled version, you can use this module with the standard MMUI, as mmui.mv edits are not required in Merchant versions 4.14 and newer.

New in the compiled version is an alternate template form for the customer to enter friend names and email addresses, plus an option to allow them to include a note. This template can be HTML customized to suit your look and feel. If you are not skilled at coding HTML, you can still use the default (built in) form which is customized with colors, fonts, etc with easy inputs in admin.

New in the compiled version is the ability to embed certain tokens in the tell a friend email. For example, if you are using our Coupon Redemption module with its unique coupon code generation feature you can insert a token like %module|couponrd|1~TELL-% in the body of the email. If you are on a product page when you send the email, the email can also contain the product name, image or thumbnail, and price by using tokens. Also, new in the compiled version is the ability to send the email as HTML formatted instead of plain text.

New in the compiled version is the ability to send the search string to a friend if your store is also using our Power Search module. Clicking the link will reproduce the search the original friend had created with Power Search prior to sending the Tell-a-Friend email. This is similar to the link you can send for the Gift/Wish list if you are using our Gift List module.

The compiled version of this module can use OpenTokens instead of hook points within OpenObjects. The OpenDesigner screen lists the OpenObjects which can replace all or some screens within the OpenUI user interface. The OpenObjects provide a template screen which contains the existing hook points (backward compatibility), OpenToken capability, and the ability to move output around within the OpenObject screen. Since the tokens in this module conform to OpenToken functionality, they may be used in other template type screens like those provided by Viking Coders. Place the Tell-a-Friend button on the Merchant pages so that it better fits your desired look.

Instructions

Installation instrucitons may be found in the readme.txt included in the distribution package. After registering your license key, you can either use the "Product File Name Pattern" and upload the product files quickly with an FTP program, or you can upload individual product files through the "File Attachments" interface in the Product Details (Admin » Stores » 'your store' » Products » 'product xyz' » Email Attachments). You can combine both methods, fo course too - i.e. using the pattern for file names matching the product code (or another token or expression), and uploading individual files that do not match the pattern, through the Product Details.

You can use the module to attach the same file with every order (i.e. the license agreement) - in the MmATTACH » softgoods settings, put the file name instead of a variable/token expression into the "Product File Name Pattern".

We recommend using files of maximally up to several hundreds of kilobytes. Emailing huge files could cause serious delays during the checkout and common mailboxes are often limited in size and may refuse huge attachments. We also recommend avoiding executable files (*.exe, *.js, *.com,...) - many email clients and antivirus programs are set to block them. Use zipped archives instead.

19 Custom Integration of UPS Online Tools Viking Coders / Miva Central

This is NOT a module, but rather a service; a custom integration into your store of an interface to access the UPS Rates & Service Selection so that your customers can enjoy the pleasures of real-time UPS shipping rate calculation. The integration requires that you register as an end-user and obtain an access key (easily done). We will then integrate the tools into your site using your UPS user id and access key. Send an email to brok@vikingcoders.com for more information on the procedure.

The features offered by the interface are almost identical to those of the Original UPS Advanced module. Unlike the current version of that module, this interface handles international shipping, surcharges for rural areas, and even shipping FROM international addresses (but then I guess it wouldn't be "international" to you).

    The interface offers options such as such as calculation of "oversize" and "dimensional" weights (you can specify the dimensions of the package), declared value insurance, and hazmat. In addition, it lets you configure products to be shipping independently in their own box (or multiple quantity per box) and from their own zip code. Individual products can be flagged to have free shipping, products being shipping in their own box can be specified to have free shipping on a per-method basis (eg. free UPS ground for product x), and individual methods can be configured to be free (eg. free UPS ground). You also have the option of configuring the module on a "category" level so that all products within that category will ship using the option set for the category.

    Individual methods can be discounted (eg. UPS Ground 25% off). Individual methods can also have specific handling charges assigned to them. The merchant can specify the maximum weight to put into individual shipping boxes as well as specify a weight for the shipping package itself. The module uses a sophisticated algorithm to pack the boxes to the maximum weight while maintaining the lowest number of boxes. The methods seen by the customer in the drop down shipping selection list can be sorted either ascending or descending (or not at all).

20 Phone Order Manager Viking Coders / Miva Central

This module provides an "out of Merchant" interface for creating baskets and entering orders. The interface is completely configurable using "tokens and templates" and combines the product selection, customer information, shipping selection, and payment selection screens of the normal Merchant checkout into a single screen. Products can be added to the basket by selection from a list or from search results. Customer information can be manually added or the customer's account can be searched for and selected to "pre fill" the address information. Customer accounts can be created from the interface with the login and password being manually entered or automatically generated.

The module is intended as an interface to be used by individuals taking phone orders or otherwise needing a more compact check out process than that which is offered by Merchant. As such, it uses Merchant's "basket" and checkout pages and the procedure for it's use is a streamlined version of Merchant's typical procedure. The user will add products to their basket and enter the customer's information (either manually or by selecting the customer's account from search results). The shipping and payment methods are selected. When the order is ready to be completed, the "process" button is clicked and the user is taken into Merchant's checkout pages (which particular page the user is taken to is a configurable option) and the order is completed in the same manner that a normal customer would. This order will then appear in Merchant's order processing exactly like any other order.
